Irene's Spiritual Awakening Journey
I was born in Thika and raised in various towns including Matuu, Nairobi, Mwea, and Kivaa. My childhood was filled with a mix of adventures and dark moments. My dad, my hero, made us feel like the wealthiest family, ensuring we always had what we wanted and taking us on weekend adventures. His love for us was palpable, especially during family outings to enjoy Nyama Choma (roasted meat) while he enjoyed his beer. He even let me taste it, and I loved it.
However, beneath the surface of our seemingly perfect family, I witnessed his bouts of anger, fights, and emotional abuse towards my mother. These were terrifying moments that made me feel insecure and alone. Despite enjoying visits to friends’ homes, I always felt that my family was lacking something fundamental.
The domestic abuse eventually led to my parents’ separation, and in a moment of desperation, my father took his own life. He was my hero but also the source of my deepest pain. His death plunged me into a battle with suicidal thoughts, abandonment, grief, and insecurity. No one seemed to understand me, labeling me as rebellious and a crybaby. I felt isolated and misunderstood throughout my childhood.
My mother did her best to support me, even taking me to traditional healers and pastors in an attempt to find answers. These encounters often resulted in dire predictions, leaving me scared and more isolated. School was a struggle; I felt judged and out of place, which only deepened my sense of confinement.
Despite these challenges, my spiritual awakening began at a young age. By high school, I was experiencing vivid dreams and insights into healing. I questioned Christianity, wondering why disparities existed if we all believed in one God. I immersed myself in studying the Bible and actively participated in church activities, earning several awards and progressing in the Salvation Army church.
Deep down, I always felt spiritually powerful and deserving of an abundant life, but there was a gap. I believed I needed a savior to lift me into the life I envisioned. This search began in high school, where I expressed my feelings through poetry. I believed poetry would lead me to my savior. During this search, I met a lawyer who sponsored my education and showered me with money. He promised to change my life if I became his wife. At 16, I lost my virginity to him and had three abortions. These traumatic events left me empty and secretive, leading me to end the relationship after high school.
In my last year of high school, I met a celebrity media personality who helped me gain fame and influence through my poetry. We became lovers, and I found myself living with him and his four children at 17. The relationship was fraught with emotional abuse and health issues. Despite getting into university, we separated after seven months.
Determined to complete my education, I faced financial difficulties. My mother organized a fundraiser for my first year, and I met an accountant who supported me through one semester in exchange for a relationship. This relationship also ended due to abuse. Weary but hopeful, I prayed for a savior to pay my fees. A week later, a man appeared and paid my fees, but this relationship brought new challenges, furthering my spiritual awakening.
Realizing that I was my own savior, I embarked on a journey of self-discovery, forgiveness, and healing. This journey, captured in my book “Unveiling Blessings In Disguise,” involved transforming my mindset and embracing a new perspective on life. Over seven years, I found my purpose and achieved financial stability. Now, I support others guided by the divine.
You are the savior you have been waiting for!
